    How is bandwidth calculated?

Monthly bandwidth needs are found with this formula: monthly visitors × pages per visit × average page size. A safety margin of typically 1.3–2× is usually added to the result for traffic spikes and search-engine bot crawling.

How do I reduce bandwidth consumption?

    • Serve images in WebP/AVIF format at the right dimensions
    • Use browser caching and Gzip/Brotli compression
    • Distribute static content via a CDN
    • Consider hosting large files like video on external services

    Frequently Asked Questions

Bandwidth is the total amount of data transferred from your website to visitors over a given period (usually monthly). On every page view, all of the page's components (HTML, images, CSS, JavaScript, fonts) are downloaded to the visitor's browser, and that data counts against your bandwidth.

Your needs are directly proportional to your monthly visitor count, pages viewed per visit, and average page size. For example, 10,000 monthly visitors, 3 pages per visit, and a 2 MB average page size means roughly 60 GB/month of traffic. We recommend adding a 30–50% safety margin to that value for traffic spikes.

As of 2024, an average web page is around 2–3 MB on desktop. Image- and video-heavy sites can exceed 5 MB, while well-optimized blog pages can stay under 1 MB. Compressing images to WebP format and using caching significantly reduces bandwidth consumption.

"Unlimited" traffic is usually offered under a fair-usage policy; for normal website use you won't feel any practical limit, but usage that excessively consumes server resources may be restricted. Clou.TR hosting plans offer high/unlimited traffic quotas.

When you exceed your quota, depending on the hosting provider you may be charged an extra fee, or your site may be temporarily suspended until the end of the period. That's why it's important to estimate your traffic in advance and leave a safety margin.
